The 123th Anniversary of the Ice Cream Sundae

Ice Cream Sundae is 123 years old today!  Wow!  According to Wikipedia, on Sunday, April 3, 1892, the first historically documented sundae was created in Ithaca, New York.

John M. Scott, a Unitarian Church minister, and Chester Platt, co-owner of Platt & Colt Pharmacy, created a dish called "Cherry Sunday".  It was a dish of ice cream with cherry syrup and candied cherries.  Later on, they also created "Strawberry Sunday" and "Chocolate Sunday".

I'm not sure how the two men made the sundaes.  But those sundaes might not look like the one Sophia Foster-Dimino drew for Google Doodles in 2011.  She mentioned that she was inspired by sundaes from the 1950s.

Maybe these recipes from an old cookbook will inspire us to make some vintage ice cream sundaes.
