Our Canadian flag is 50 years old |
I checked the CTV News site, I found 4 videos. The first one is our Governor General David Johnston talks about Canada flag. The second video is Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Canadian flag in Mississauga, Ontario. The third one is Former Prime Minister Jean Chretien delivers remarks in the same event at Mississauga to mark the Canadian flag's 50th birthday. The fourth video is "Sewing the first maple leaf flag". Where is the video of Ottawa's Canada flag celebration?
So,
I switched to CBC. There were only 3
videos about Mr. Chretien's remark, the lady who sewed the first flag and a
video called "Look back: The Canadian Flag". Here is my question again. Where is the video of Ottawa's Canada flag celebration?
At 6 pm, I watched the CTV News. The news about this celebration was also low-key. Governor General David Johnston was
there. One Conservative MP was there.
Bruce Chambers, a columnist for CBC Radio, summarized
a very interesting list about how much money the Conservative Government allocated
its budget for current celebrations.
Event | Budget | Commercials for the event |
50th anniversary of Canada flag | $50,000 + $200,000 to fund celebrations by provincial lieutenant-governors and other organizations. |
None
|
The bicentennial of the War of 1812 | $5.2 million | Yes, splashy commercials, according to Bruce Chambers |
The first Canadian Prime Minister - Sir John A. Macdonald’s 200th birthday | $4 million | Yes + there would be a new Toonie ($2 coin), special gold and silver coins and a new stamp featured Sir John A., a Conservative. |
The Conservatives don't feel proud of our red and white Maple Leaf flag, do they? At the time when Canadians tried to decide a flag for Canada, they didn't want it to look like either an American flag or a British flag. So, they didn't use red, white and blue. Rumor has it, since red is the Liberal colour, the blue Conservatives don't appreciate this flag.
Mr. Prime Minister, this is Canada flag's 50th anniversary and Flag Day in Canada, why you weren't at the ceremony? Is this
